Rear Drag Shock Install: Sleeve Needed?

I'm in the middle of installing the rear part of my drag setup. I got the rear shock out and was going to transfer the sleeve to the new shock, but i cant get it off. Is it detachable? Do i need the sleeve on the new shock? The shock is a lakewood 50/50s. We viced it and tried removing it but it seems welded on or something. Thanks.

nope, brand new from 50resto. It came with a bag of hardware but no sleeve. I dont think i need them, anyone know??? This is really holding me back from finishing the rear. Looks like its turning into a two day job :( Its easy and stuff, but i had to stop and run up town to buy torx things, and i live way out of town. And now this, and all these bolts really tight UGH. Oh well about a day's work left and i'm golden...THANKS FOR ANY ADVICE!!

Any pictures of differrent sleeves or bushings? I put my Strange rear shocks in and I thought they mounted a little funny (the way the sleeve was)...but had long gotten rid of my other shocks before putting it back together.

Well, have you tried installing it to see how it fits at all? Maybe you really don't need the extra hardware????

Mine fit fine, but I was curious because it looked different than I rememberred, but it seems to be fine.

did you try getting ahold of 50resto? anytime i have trouble with a part, i immediately call the folks i purchased it from. if they can't help, then take some pics and post them so we can see what you're talking about. i'm sure that would help us all help you. good luck

the strut fits fine, perfect. The problem, though, is that it did not come with a sleeve to protect the rod from dust etc. I cannot seem to pull the stock one apart. Was it supposed to come with a sleeve? Do i need a sleeve? Thats all i really need to know. Thanks a ton,

Were you talking about the shock or the strut now?

The struts have the sleeve that you would take off and put on your new ones.

The shocks are supposed to have them on there already.

At least -- this has been my limited experience.

Talking about the shock (for everything previously mentioned. I didn't have any problem with the struts, the sleeves came off of the stock ones easily and swapped). My shocks have zero sleeve. Just rod and red housing. I would post pics but i dont have a digi cam. So everyone else's aftermarket shocks came with sleeves? I dont see where they make that much difference. Guess i might as well call up 50resto tomorrow or whenever their next workday is to find out. Thanks,

p.s. i'm sure these are great shocks, but, come on lakewood. GET SOME BETTER INSTRUCTIONS!!

I just checked the Lakewood site looking for info on my problem and the good news is you're doing fine -- they are not supposed to have the sleeves. The site said it was to reduce weight and allow you to check on the rod, etc. The bad news is, I still have a problem...maybe you can help...

I have a similar situation with my rear shocks -- except it's the sleeve on the bottom. My Strange shocks didn't come with any extra hardware, and I think I need some. I'm going to strat my own thread and not rob yours though...

Maybe you can help in my thread:
