OK I KNow use the search button but im having a hard time finding specs for rear ends and since im demoing a perfectly good bird the tbird site guys are no help..... i got a 88 lx 2.3 i take it it has a 7.5 inch rear unsure of ratio as of now and it is not a trac loc rear...it has drums....the 88 bird im picking up im unsure of other then the inclanation it has disk brakes what other benefits am i lookin at ie is it still a 7.5 inch would it be equipt with trac loc ECt..and if the only difference is the disk brakes it should be easy to convert the outers to accept the disks with a little fab ...or just switch out whole housingg...also i do know t bird is a little wider...Thanks Zach

wow, I can barely make sense of your posts.
Your mustang has a 7.5 with 3.73s (auto), or 3.45s (manual) with an open rear end. The 87-88 TC (turbo coupe) got an 8.8 with 3.73s (auto) or 3.55s (manual), rear disk brakes and a limited slip differential. The TC rear end is also 1.25" wider, which let your tires rub on the fenders.

All the housings are the same width between T-bird & Mustang, 7.5 & 8.8. The difference is all the axles.

k, noob question... 7.5 and 8.8... what is this? axle shaft diameter? also, 3.73... this is gear ratio between driveshaft and the differential ring gear? also what is the effect of going from 3.55 to 3.73 to 4.10 ratio? how does this affect acceleration/top speed or whatever? thx.

i'm learning alot from u guys... but still a long way to go... heh

cheers,
eric.

OK first answer 7.5 and 8.8 refer to the diameter of the ring gear which is the big gear in the rearend it is measured in inches ie 7.5 is 7.5inches in diameter.../ size directly affects strength so an 8.8 is stronger than a 7.5>>>>>>>>>>>>
Second Answer... the ratios 2.55 3,73 ect is a calculation in size between the two gears in the rear end basicly in a 3.73 for every 3.73 revolutions of pinion or input the axla will turn once 3.73 :1

Lower Ratios 3.55 for example will increase your top speed as it decreases the engine RPM therefore achieving a higher top speed but a slower acceleration

Higher Ratios will do the oppisit faster acceleration but reducing top speed...Zach

"im demoing a perfectly good bird the tbird site guys are no help"

Well I wonder why?
If you are demolishing a perfectly good TC you obviously have never driven it.
The Stang will never be half the car the TC is, no matter what you transfer to it.
It is easy to make a turbo LX without wrecking a good car.
One day you will understand this.
