I am looking at buying a rearend with a tag that says:
WDX G 71A
2 50 9 402A
I need any information possible on this. Is there anywhere that I can find this or does anyone know what this means? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

anything else? Is it a 28 or 31 spline? standard differential? all i know is that its from a lincoln versailles and that it has been cut to the length of a 65. I believe almost everything else is stock.

all versailles had 28 spline axles. yes the open rear means it is a standard diff. if it was a traction loc diff there would be an "L" between the 2 and the 50. in other words it would read 2 L 50

I tried cross-referencing the tag number you posted with what I have listed on my website, and come up with nothing.

If it was from a '77-'80 Lincoln Versailles, I'm puzzled as to why it would have been cut to fit a '65/'66 Mustang (??). Those rear ends already have the very same 52¼" wide (bare) housings as the '65/'66 Mustang's rear ends.

I have all the rear end codes listed on my site for the '75-'80 Granada/Monarch 8", 8.7", 9-inch drum brake, and '9-inch disc brake rear ends, as well as all the codes for the 9-inch disc brake rear ends from the '77-'80 Versailles, and this doesn't match any of them.

Sounds like it possibly came out of something else, like a big Lincoln Continental (56" wide housing) and was cut down to the narrower length.

As Brian said, the gears are 2.50 ratio, with a single track differential. the only other thing I can tell from your information is the rear end was assembled the 1st week of January, 1977.

thanks guys, great info. im still undecided on whether to buy or not but i think it will cost me $325. It is disassembled, supposedly to check all the components, is this a descent price considering that i will have to do something to put in some sort of posi or trac loc? Thanks

$325 sound reasonable as long as all the brake components are in good usable shape. i had one that i completely went through and sold it for $1000 and barely made any money on it all. i put in new bearings and seals, new rotors, rebuilt calipers and a 3.70 center section. i would not have sold if i hadn't REALLY NEEDED the money. actually i would like to find another one for the cougar i'm getting.
