My project is a 65 coupe and I just got a 347 stroker built for it. Has a mild ford hydrolic roller cam in it. Ford intake and a Holley 570 carb, Edelbrock heads with roller rockers. They said i'll be pushin close to 400 HP and 400 ft/lbs of torque. Thing is i have the original rear end in it still. Is this rear end going to handle it the power of the new motor? If not any suggestions on what i should put behind it??

I also had a performance AOD built for it. The guy at my trans shop asked me what gears i had in the rear before he built it and i just told him the stock gears for now. If i change out my rear to different gears is that going to cause problems with my AOD since he built it according to stock ratio rear end?

Thanks !!

i think the only reason he'd want to know your rear end gear ratio was so that i could have the speedometer calibrated correctly. The 8" might be able to handle that combo, and then it might not. it depends on how you drive the car. If you drive hard you're probably going to need to swap out the rear end for an 8.8 or a 9"

You haven't told us what car you have. But likely it's got an 8" rear. It will hold for awhile with an automatic. Just don't put any slicks on and try hard launches with it. Kinda undercarbed for a 347 there with a 570. But it ought to have excellant street manners. What cams in there ? Intake ?

My car is a 65 mustang coupe. Yea at first i thought 570 was too small, everyone usually says at least a 650. But the guy at the speed shop said it will run/idle really good on the street. I'm not sure of the exact cam or intake specs, i just know they're both ford. The cam is hydrolic roller but hey kept it pretty mild because i have AC on it too.

i'm thinkin just puttin at 9" limited slip in it just to be sure i dont break anything.

The only thing you'll be missing with a 570 on there is at the top end of the rpm range. HArd to tell, but looks like you've got the A321 on there. Good intake Got one on my 5.0 in my Ranger. It's got unequal length runners as opposed to the RPM style intakes, but works just as well.
