I was just pulling out of a restaurant real slow and I start going down the road and I start hearing a clunking whenever I let off the gas. It doesnt seem to do it when Iam accelerating only when I left off, and the noise matchs the speed Iam going. Any ideas? Its dark out now otherwise Id be out there looking. Just praying after I check everything else if I have to open the rear end cover broken teeth dont greet me....

Also there was no warning, humming VERY slight knocking or anything just started.

ALU driveshaft if that makes a difference.

ujoints?

Does the car like kick foward?

If its the ujoints its not that bad, u joints are like 25 bucks, and youll probably want to get the driveshaft reblanced, not sure if thats it though, someone please jump in.

the FRPP alum driveshaft has heavy duty 1330 (steel alloy) u-joints that are prelubed from the factory, unless you've got a ton of miles on it, I don't forsee you having u-joint problems...truth is often times stranger than fiction however

I'd go ahead and inspect everything though, shake your driveshaft around, ck the mounting bolts on the pinion yoke-these things WILL come loose if you don't use loc-tite (personal experience).

if you don't find anything obviously amiss there, then pop the cover open at the first oppurtunity and do a good once over inspection, make sure all the parts are in place where they're supposed to be, and just ck for excessive play...use your best judgement here-if it moves farther than you think it should, chances are you're right. Diff's have very close tolerances that must be maintained to operate properly, if they exceed those tolerances, they tend to make noise, wear more quickly, etc.

also check motor and tranny mounts. Although you hear it from the rear, it could be anything. Once a sound hits the tranny tunnel it comes from all over. Also check your brakes make sure nothing is lose like a spring snapped (drum) or something of that nature. Other guesses could be the tranny or rear end without hearing it, it is kind of hard to help.

When is the last time you had the gear oil changed. Some fresh 75W90 with 4ozs of friction modifier might solve your problem.
