Rear End Noise

Has your rearend been worked on in the past, from what I've gathered if your pinion and ring gear depth is to low, the rear end will wine, if too far it will thunk. Are you sure its not the transmission, after certain age and miles transmission start to whine. I would check your rear end for metal pieces and low diff. fluid. Never hurts to go w/ a full synthetic transmission fluid, assuming that you have a manual trans.
