AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Yeah I went to a driveline specialist and said I have to get a new set of ring and pinion or else my posit unit will mess up to. I have too much back lash and possibly some bad bearings. I'm just gonna rebuild my rear end to be on the safe side and putting that pup away for a bit. And part of the noise was my e brake cables rubbing on my tires since I put wider tires.

Thanks for the update! Good to know!

Damn. My 96' GT been making that sound for years. It's a DD so I've kinda tuned it out.

Did they pull lthe axle cover, or just guess? If you just replaed the axles, this noise would have been present before also. I bet you hurt the bearings when you R&Red the axles. I dont understand what you mean by a whooping noise. What control arms did you put on the car? Did you leave any tools on the upper control arm mounting points after you installed them?

It sounds like your "driveline specialist" may have conveniently turned a bearing change job into a $500+ rear end rebuild... There's no way to say for sure, but if you're willing to do it and your car was due for a rear end overhaul anyway, I guess you might as well.

If it did not make noise before, it may just be the difference in fit of the axles and the outer bearings, and the new bushings in the new ca's. Did you change from rubber to poly bushings?

You might just change the outer bearings and see if that improves it. Otherwise, let the shop deal with it.

I made sure to take out and put in the axles carefully. I got second look at it and its my backlash and my u-joints that are making my rear end sound like its gonna break. Going to redo my rear end anyways. Part of that whoping sound was my e brake cables rubbing on my tires. They came loose but got that problem fixed. And as for my control arms they don't make any noise at all.
