rear end parts advice

Good luck getting somebody to go searching through websites to help you out. I know I won't. Sorry. Just tell us what you're buying (we know what's what) and somebody will speak up. We don't need part numbers for a general question like this.

If you are going to do rear end stuff, then get some 4.10's or 4.30's for use with your AOD (and a transgo hp kit, like 70 bucks, for the AOD) and a tracloc rebuild kit (use cscscsc instead of csscssc when you reassemble).

Dont bother with the rear end support. You wont need that until you get some serious HP. Maybe some upper/lower control arms and if you have lots of $$$ sitting around, a rear disc brake kit. I just put in the mc-2300 C (same as t-coupe. Looks real nice.

if you look in my sig i have a set of 3.73's for it, i am swaping to a 5 speed, and i am doing the 5 lug 4 wheel disc swap in a week. the reason i want the rear end girdle is the fill/drain holes i havent found a non girdle rear end cover with those. i am assuming that "cscscsc instead of csscssc when you reassemble" is c=clutch s=shim is this ok to do?

I want the girdle for that reason too, the fill/drain holes. C = clutch and S = steel spacer - same basic thing. The alternate order has a higher preload so that the trac-lok unit has more resistance to a one-wheel peel.

Oh, woops.

In that case, the 3.73's are perfect for a t-5

Just out of curiosity, what do you need to drain the rear end for? I know one needs to drain it when changing clutch packs or gears but then you need to take the cover off anyway.

Dont give up on the A-O-D...

I have an 86 v6 AOD Marquis with TCI 3K stall and TG shiftkit and lemme tell ya...hands down _necksnapping_ acceleration (mostly from the TC), .67 OD for highway cruise (lets me run 4.56's for yet more acceleration and still be able to go 80 mph@3Krpms . The t-5 only has a .73(?) OD so I'd be limited to 3.90's for 3Krpms@80mph) and hands free operation to boot. It shifts like BANG, BANG BANG...no mushy stock shifting here.

Dont lose the AOD because other people say it cant be made fast. If you like rowing the gears and its your thing then certainly go for it but do it for preference alone. I must say that this AOD setup would trounce my original t-5 setup.

cscscsc is indeed clutches and steels.

Get a drain plug kit for an AOD oilpan and place it on the stock cover. That would do the trick if you must have a drain plug.

Good luck and have fun!

i know that a properly preped AOD is the whip for racing, but i dont want to have a drag car i want somthing street dtrip and the stick is just so much more fun to drive. the main reason i want the cover is so that its isn't as much of a pain in the ass to fill the rear end.

Buy a pump at a boat shop. They're cheap and it will make diff fluid and tranny fluid changes a snap. I've got a manual one. You can go fancy and get electric or even battery powered ones. You'll spend a whole lot less than you will on that girdle, and you'll get a lot more use out of it too. The other stuff on your list is perfect.
