REAR END SWAP....4.10's

I HAVE A 92 GT, I want to put 410 in the rear. I dont use it for highway, I really never get above 60mph anyways in town. Just want a little bigger feet in the rear. So question is which rear end with the 410's will fit in there, with basically just swaping them out. or if its not that easy what would you guys suggest.. keeping same bolt pattern if posible.. id really like to just bolt them in if at all possible??..........

Auto...Standard trans? Mods? Since you have none listed, I'll assume the car is primarily stock....in which case, 4.10's is a lot of gear for a stock Mustang. I personally don't think you'll be happy with them. The heads and intake run out of steam too quickly on a stock 5.0L. As such, you'll be in and through your power band before you know it. If the car is stock, so with something a little more reserved 3.73's or 3.55's that'll allow the engine to stay within it's average power band longer and you'll be happier with the way it performs.

yeah right now everything under hood is stock, just have pipes and just put headers on.. just figured the gears would give it the extra ummmphhh... So its bad to swap them with to basically run around in town. Im not using it on the track.

To answer your original question, there are no stock rear ends that came with 4.10 gears. The steepest stock Ford gears I know of are 3.55's in some dohc Cobras, and that isn't a straight swap. Some later Fox automatic vert's came with 3.27's, but they're not that common.

If you are a 5spd I'd recommend a 3.55 gear set, anything numerically higher and 1st gear will be like a creeper gear.

Ive got a automatic.. just looking to get bigger feet. I thought there were some rangers or explorers that had 410's that would swap out..

The Rangers/Explorers don't have the same rear end. The 8.8 carrier and gearset is the same, but the carrier is offset with the trucks, where it is centrally located with the Mustang. It doesn't have the same control arm/shock mounts, etc.

You may be able to get yourself a set of "gears and a traction lock" out of one of those rear ends, but the rear end itself won't physically bolt in.

You're better off just buying a gearset for yours and having it installed.

4.10s will make your AOD car alot more fun, even with a stock motor. A friend of mine did a stall converter and 4.10s on a bolt on car and it really woke it up. Look for one locally on craigslist or on the forums, you might be able to find one to just swap in. IMO thats the way to go, cheaper, and easier

COOL DEAL!! I thought so. I drive it daily and for now dont wanna get to crazy with going in to the motor.. but i will eventually.. im just looking to go faster like now...I will check out the adds... But didnt really know what to look for or what would fit inthere with out major mods or work

That's about 50-75% of the fun right there. Jumping from a set of 2.73's to a 4.10's will certainly make the car feel more lively, but I don't think he's going to notice a huge gain across the board being that the rest of his car is otherwise stock.

Jonbacon, the stock E7TE headed Mustang runs out of breath somewhere in the 5,200-5,400RPM range. Although gears will get you going initially much quicker, it’ll also get you through your relatively short power band and have your engine falling on its face, that much faster as well.

I think it you’re dead set on 4.10 gears, that you should look into a good torque converter, shift kit and some go fast parts to allow that engine to breath beyond its stock limits to gain the most benefit from them. Otherwise….don’t expect miracles.

So should I aim for some 3.73/91.... I intend to put a intake on, has little things now like a cold air and i just put the pipes and headers on. I dont really intend on racing it like crazy , just want the extra pep in my step.. but i didnt know what rear end will bolt up in there with the same bolt pattern and actualy fit in there correctly with out crazy work or changes.. I'm not dead set on 4.10's, but I know they are a huge difference when it comes to hitting the gas..

any company that makes gears for the 8.8 ford rear end will bolt/fit right in but if u r planning on doing the swap yourself u will need alot of special tools to do the job and have some experience.....but i will strongly suggest you get a shop to the swap

I would scour the classifieds for an already built rear. You may get lucky and score one with discs.
