rear leaf spring help

i am in need of raising the rear of a 66 mustang coupe. i put new leaf springs on, which were suppose to be stock replacements. but it sit to low for my taste. i need to get it raised about 1 in. or so to help level it out better. it looks like the rear is sagging right now. i don't want air shocks so i need another idea.

Did you put new coils in the front as well? They will typically raise the front higher than stock.

Are you talking I6 or V8 coupe? You could do the shelby drop and gain about 1/2 inch. Cost you nothing but a little time and an alignment.

it was a I6 that i converted over to v8 with granada parts. i put new coils in the front that are suppose to be lowering springs. how do i go about the shelbly drop? i have heard of it but never seen how to do it though

Unless you want a higher stance than most of us on this forum, I would suggest cutting the front coils to lower the front to match the rear. Cut a 1/4 of a coil at a time until you get the ride height where you want it. Otherwise, I would suggest going with a little longer leaf spring shackles, but be careful because shackles that are too long have a pronounced adverse effect on handling. Tell us what your goal is and we can likely offer more specifics.

i just want to get the car to look level. the rear is to low and my tires are rubbing a bit. if i can get the rear to come up about an 1in. at least it would look better. i am going to try to find a picture and post to show you guys.

I recently replaced my rear leafs and I noticed when I went to pick them up that the arch wasn't the same as the old tired ones It was less. I purchased them from a spring manufacturing facility here in my city and the guy took the old one and rearched the new ones to match the old arch. I fear if this was not done I would have had the same problem as you are encountering. Maybe you need to get the new ones re-arched to raise your ride height in the rear especially if your are experiencing tire rub?

if i cut the coil spring a 1/4 at a time how does that effect the way it sit. i mean the coil spring would not be sitting flush up at the top anymore would it? i think i need to just lower the front because the more i look at it the rear sits good but the front could go lower an 1in. or so

You dont cut it out of the top where the spring is flat; you take the pieces out of the bottom where the coil sits in the spring perch. The spring perch is shaped so the bottom of the spring doesnt need to be flat.
