Rear Main and Clutch....Are they dead?

Went to work yesterday and when I came home noticed a rather large puddle of oil where I had it parked. I put it up on some stands and looks like it's leaking from right in front of the bellhousing (so I'm thinking the rear main just decided to take a $h!t) I was going to replace the clutch anyways but it looks like I'll be doing it sooner than I wanted, since I have to change the rear main anyway.

I'm really not sure about the clutch. It shifts fine but sometimes I'll push the clutch in and the car will just rev w/o me touching the gas. Also sometimes when I downshift I doesn't like to go into 3rd and anymore If I take off quick from a dead stop or even a slow roll it just revs and I"m barely moving. I know it's definetly slipping but only when I really get on it in 1st. It looks like It can't be adjusted anymore. It's grabbing about halfway from the floor and the cable is maxed out of adjustment where it hooks to the tranny (it can't be tightened anymore.....out of threads I would only be able to back the nuts off and that would just give the cable more slack and make it grab closer to the floor.......Right?

It's an 88GT w/ just bolt on's. I'm leaning towards the king cobra right now (mainly due to price) I want something w/ more grip than the stock one but just can't afford the centerforce. Is there anything other than the king cobra that's better in the same price range. Thanks!

It's pretty tough to go wrong with the King Cobra. That'd be my first choice. As for some of your other problems, like "revving up without having your foot on the gas"...that's got nothing at all to do with your clutch. Downshifting and not going into third.....could be the clutch, but might be worn synchronizers.

Let me ask you...does it grind going into gear when speed/powershifting? If so, you may as well spring for the cost of a rebuild kit ($160.00US) to go with it while you've got the tranny out. It’s always better to do it all in one shot, then having to pull it a second time.

probly is ur rear main seal, and like gearbanger 101 said, go with the king cobra clutch, i got mine 3 years ago and it has almost 153k miles and still grabs at every burnout....lol

Thanks for the replies. It never grinds when I speed or powershift nor does it make any noises. So hopefully it has plenty of life in it. Looks like the fun will begin tomorrow......Sure would be nice to leave the line hard and actually go somewhere for a change.
