So i dropped the tranny to get it fixed and figured while i'm at it i might as well replace the main seal and pilot bearing. I read up on all data and it said to remove the seal retainer plate if necessary when replacing the seal. So i did it w/o removing it, and pulled the seal out...only to find another one behind it. I started freakin' out wondering what the deal was after i had already bought a new one, 'cause there was only one in the box. Then i did some research and found out it was an oil slinger(keep in mind the one i pulled out was a Ford seal, may have been original). I've read that other people have just put the replacement one piece in there w/o an oil slinger behind it and haven't had problems, or that some 4.6's didn't even come with one.
Some help would be appreciated so i can have some piece of mind, thanks.
