I think my rear main seal may be leaking some. Im doing my clutch install this month, and would like to install a new seal while im there. What is needed to remove and install a new seal?

I'm not sure how the new engines are, but the old style two piece seal was hard to install properly. It wasn't hard to put it in, it was just hard to get it right and not have a brand new leaking rear main seal.

Good luck

the rear seal on my 95 was a 1 piece. It is easy to replace.

Yes the new ones are 1 piece seals. Some screw a sheet metlal screw into the rubber and use a claw hammer to remove, other just use a screw driver to dig into it and pull out. Just be careful not to nick the crank. They are easy to do. Also do the pilot bearing while you are there. Autozone rents a pilot bearing puller.

thanks guys, hopefully all goes well when I do it. Is there a specific brand rear seal that I should go with or will autozone do?

My autozone told me to get the rear seal from Ford. Its not a very expensive part,
