rear panhard rod is full of ballast beads, for noise?

when I lowered my car a couple weeks ago and changed to an adjustable panhard rod I was suprised to find the stock bar was heavy and filled with beads (almost like an Indian Walking stick)

this is likley for noise and vibration absorbtion from the the rear end

I wonder if earler cars did not have this type of bar and that was reason for some rear end noise complaints.

I heard they were retro fitting a weight to the rear end housing to correct when brought in (I have no weight connected to my housing my car was built in late March '05)

I noticed a slight rear end wine after the new bar (aluminum w/ rod ends) was installed only when crusing at speeds over 40 in higher gears (low load) but as soon as I folded back my rear seats (they had been down since I bought it) the noise is not noticable

Subject: '05 Mustang GT panhard rod Questions

I purchased the aluminum panhard rod for a 2005 Mustang GT last month off ebay, thank you for the great service & part, a few questions:

-I have the eibach pro-kit, is it normal for the bar to be adjusted to the min. amount (threads bottomed out) to center axle?

-if needed to shorten more, should I cut a 1/4" off each end of rod?

-what is best way to measure for axle center on the '05 Mustang?

-what are the brand or specs on the rod end used? (for future replacement) are they available elseware/common part?

-are the spacers a wearing part? if so, availability and $

-any idea why The factory bar is filled with ballast beads? For sound insulation? I do notice more rear end wine since lowering and installing your bar

Thanks in advance

responce:
Unfortunately we have found production tolerances on these cars to be loose as with almost any car. It will not hurt anything to shorten one end of the panhard rod by a 1/4" if needed.

These rod ends are FK Rod End brand with part # of JM12T and JML12T. These are a very high quality precision rod end that will most likely not wear out. They use the best material on the market such as Dupont brand Teflon as the liner. The aluminum spacers are not wear items. They do not move at all if the bar is installed properly.

Most customer will just drop a plumb bob down the fender and measure into the wheel from that point. The best way to do it is to find true center of the vehicle and measure to the inside of the wheel from that point.

As for the beads in the bar. In my opinion It is purely for sound deadening to reduce noise to allow for looser production tolerances on bearings and gears and such.

That was a really good response...Those would have been my questions too.
So you like the bar with the springs? Your bar must have been lighter?
Thanks man..

so far about 600mi with pro kit and bar, totaly happy with both. a little bit more noise transfer but very livable (could also be the higher spring rates)

bar, rod ends and spacer are quaility looking (and feel) parts
the bar is rifel drilled all the way threw (thick wall)

it weighs about a quarter the weight of the original (like removing half my spare tire) :)

Cool Thanks man..I already have the upper and lower control arms but was waiting untill I heard somemore feed back..The panhard I think I will get, it just makes sense and if I put spring, tyres, arms etc why stop there!! :D
