Still trying to figger out how my rear is gonna come together. I have 3.08's in my stock rearend, now. I want better gears for my occasional romp at the road course/track. I can get stock v6 rear end for the brake swap (axles and brakes, only) with my housing and gears; or I can get a complete 95-98 GT rear from a car with an AOD (3.27 gears).

The v6 parts will be 100 bux. The GT rear is 450.

I've looked locally (zip 44446--NE Ohio) for a 95+ GT rear with the gears I want (3.55's or 3.73's) but no go.

What to do?

$450 is too much for a GT rear.

Buy the V6 rear, swap over the disk brake parts and then put your stock drums and axles on the V6 rear and sell it to a 79-93 4-banger owner.

You can prob get whatever gears you wanted installed for less than $350 and then sell off your old 3.08's.

for now just do the gears..go with 3:53 or 3:73...then after you out grow that do the brakes...I would upgrade the front calipers/pads before the rear unless you have the green$

I already have the fronts and the wheels. I just need the rears. The best deal I can get locally for a gear install is 200 plus parts. Factor in the parts and my last gear install was 500.

I guess I could try to procure a drum 8.8 with 3.73's and then switch the brakes over.

Just keep searching around. Not like 8.8's with 3.73's are rare. Just wait until you find one.

Only 450 US for a GT rear? The guy at a junk yard here tried to tell me GTs come with 3:73s and he wanted $800 CA for the whole thing even though the brakes and axles are the same, what a crock.

I still ended up paying $300 for a V6 rear, but I'm impatient. Go with the $100 for the V6 rear and save up money for a gear swap later.

Good luck!

How bout this?

TC rear for the 3.73 gears (can get one locally) and a v6 rear for the axles and brakes. Swap the axles into the TC rear use the sn95 rear brakes.

Put the TC axles and brakes into my stock housing and sell it to someone.

I can get both rears for a total outlay of 300, then turn around and sell my 8.8 for a decent price--4 lug disc with 3.08 gears.

will it work?
