I just tore out my rear seat. I didn't realize how heavy all that ***** is. It must be a good 60 pounds worth of metal and fabric back there. I also took out the seat belt receptacles and as soon as I get a Torx bit, I will be taking out the seat belts themselves.

If you want something to cover up that unsightly mess that doesnt add a lot of weight, check out www.rearseatdelete.com This is the best kit on the market.

Best one I've seen (and you can still use your upper seat cap too!):

I like the Yellow Mustang Registry delete kit. Which kit is stronger, the two piece bottom, or the one piece bottom? Also is it easy to uninstall the kit and put back in the stock seats if need be?

As for which is stronger, I dont know. You would have to ask the builder, Steve Shrader. You can email him at ymr@carolina.rr.com

As for switching back, it is very easy, takes about 5-10 minutes to switch from one to the other.

Seriously ? 60 lbs ?? If so, I'm going outside right now and tearing it all out(speacialy considering no one can fit back there). 60 lbs seems abit high in my previous car, spare tire, jack, bolts, carpet, false floor, sound dampening material(in trunk) weighed in at about 40lbs.

If this statement is acurate, is there a "How to" ? I'd be interested in gutting the rear seat too.

Is that leather??? If so hmmmmmm I could be taking a bit of weight out of the back of my car . The only thing that goes in the back seat is my dog.

Question though, if you do this rear seat delete, do these kits still give you the option to fold down your rear seat if needed? I would still need to be able to do that now and then when going on vaccation ect...

Those delete kits look so simple...

I've been thinking about making my own rear seat delete. I'd want to use a composite material though instead of "Hard Board," which sounds like pressed particle board. With a lightweight composite you can form it to look however you want it to look. It wouldn't be hard to do, and as meticulous as I am, I know it would be awesome.{self-pat-on-the-back}
...Maybe just awesome enough to market

What kind of bracing would be needed for it to hold an amp? Is the board so thin the amp would make it collapse?

50resto has rear seat deletes in all the factory colors. They go for $149.95. I
will be getting one to match my Parchment interior soon. Check them out.

The rear seat in my 98 vert was around 28 lbs with the seatbelts, I know cause I weighed it. I dont know if yours is really sixty pounds man, you may want to check that figure...

its way more than 28 pounds. The bottom cushion weighs nothing, maybe 5 pounds. But the seat backs and the frame they are in, along with the metal bar that holds the frame on the bottom, plus that "cap" that goes over the top. It weighs quite a bit. I would bet in the realm of 50-60 pounds total.

Let me put it this way: I have no trouble hauling around a 45 lb. weight at the gym, so I know what that feels like. This was at least a 10-15 lb. difference.

Vert seats are MUCH lighter than a coupe's rear seat, especially the seat backs. Ours is just another pad hanging up in front the convertible top well. Very lightweight.
