I'm planning on getting bilstein rear shocks. Are they hard to do yourself or should I have somebody do it. Anybody did it themselves.

one of the easiest parts to change on the car, definatly do it yourself.

jack the rear and set it up on jackstands to get the load off the rear suspension, take the nuts off the top of the rear shocks in the trunk (if you dont have an impact you can hold it in place with vice grips and use an open end wrench

bottom ones just remove the bolt, pull the shock out, replace with new shock.

It's a piece of cake you should have it done in about an hour or less.

Be sure to listen to urban96 about the jackstands. If the rear suspension is not loaded when you pull the shock, everything will twist toward the back of the car. Now your new shock will not line up untill you force and I mean force(pull forward) the rear suspension back into alignment.

I'll be doing this also when installing my Bullit kit...

So... does the rear suspension need to be loaded or unloaded??

When jacked up , where do you put the jack stands??

At the risk of sounding like a complete idiot!

If I place my stands under the axle as I usually do, do I then place jacks under each wheel?

In other words, how do I load the system?

you can jack the rear using the pumpkin and then stick the juack stands under the frame rails. also by light load i mean just enough to keep the rear from just hanging there

but dont forget to put blocks around the front tires!

I can't believe I'm still confused!

Do you put the jack under the diff.?

Why not just put jack stands under the axle. Wouldn't that load the suspension?

and do you have to do a similar thing for the front struts?

Oh! crap! I think i'm a dumb-ass!!

that would load the suspension but it would have the full load. you only want a small load on the rear suspension

so the wheels still need to be on the ground? my friend said i could do this job without even jacking up the car and just let the springs hold it

The only time you need the rear end fully loaded is when you are changing your 4-link control arms.

Now for shocks & struts jsut make sure that the suspension is not completely unladed. Full Load is OK. So Jackstands under the axle tubes are fine.

Actually i dont.. I have managed to put the fronts on with no problem just noticed the strut housing is about a inch shorter then SN95.. But the travel is the same length.. so i was just wondering about the rear..

having the framerails on stands is nice, then you can use a jack on the axle tube or pumpkin to help get the bolts in and out easier by jacking a tad to take the weight off em. you'll see when you do it up...a pump here or there and things should slide in.out real easy...
Unless it rusted to chit.... amnit:
