Hey guys, I bought a pedestal spoiler from Ford, had it painted and was going to install it today. So I open the trunk and removed the under truck trim piece to reveal the 4 nuts that hold the stock spoiler on. After I removed the nuts I thought the spoiler would come right off. Like no way. It's like the stock spoiler is glued on or something. Anyone have an idea?

It's double sided body tape. Cutting through it with fishing line is probably the best way to get it off. After that you'll have to use some kind of solvent to get what's left off the decklid. I've heard goof off is good for this.

When I changed my spoiler, I used a heat gun to soften up the glue. Then I pulled up on the edge and used an old credit card to cut through the glue. Once the spoiler was off (took awhile), I reheated the remaining glue and used my thumb to ball it up and then it pulled off pretty easy. Ford used some good stuff to hold the spoilers on!

Hey, I got it off using heavy string and a soft plastic putty knife. I wish I had a heat gun because I can see how it would simplify the job. I'll see tomorrow if I botched the paint on the trunk lid. My advise is buy stock in 3M. That is some strong stuff.

You're probably better off with the method you used. Heating body paint with a gun would not be my desired first experiment with a heat gun.

You're probably right. I guess you could melt the clear coat if too much heat was applied.

If you melt paint using a heat gun, you're really doing it wrong. Just even strokes along the adhesive with the gun at an 8-12in distance should warm it up enough.

Exactly... You don't want to burn the glue off, just a little heat to relax it.

I guess I was lucky because it was warm outside and that might have helped a little. Thanks for all the advise.

I will when it warms up again. For the adhesive to work it has to be over 65 degrees. Been a bit colder lately.
