Traction bars are for cars that have leaf springs...

Ummmm, not true. 1982-1984 1/2 had factory traction/slapper bars. And, Lakewood makes these for the '79 - '95 Mustangs.........

My '84 didn't, it looked just like my '91 underneath. However, I am open to the fact that you are probably still right. Regardless, it isn't relevent to this situation as he has an '89. I am still wondering what he took off, and now I'm leaning towards the anti-sway bars, which wouldn't necessarily have helped the situation.

Maybe the lowers aren't adjusted correctly? You should have absolutely zero wheel hop problems with that setup.
Not true... he still has the stock shocks/springs. There is no way that the stuff that was pretty much garbage from the factory is going to still be doing it's job now 15 years later. The springs are tired and the dampeners are toasted. I can say as an owner of an '89, that even when I bought it with 70K virgin miles on it two years ago the whole suspension was shot. Wheelhop was only one of it's problems. There are a few more peices to put in this puzzle before the picture looks functional.
Benny- I think it's time to go shopping for shocks- maybe springs too.

I guess I missed on the stock shocks...but I'd bet the springs are fine. There are alot of fast cars that run old factory springs and run good. Actually, there's something to be said for an old shock too in the rear, but I suppose either or both could certainly be the cause of wheel hop if they were bad enough.

True enough. I would only suggest springs because then a full set could be had with fronts matched to the rears. I think those MM C/A's deserve it. He seems pretty openminded to advice, so I say coilover all around. Go Benny go!

By putting the quad shocks back, you give yourself less room for a bigger tire. If you do with soem big rubber, keep an eye on your wheel lips. Shouldnt be a problem though unless your talking about a huge tire.
