I am looking for rear end advice. I have a 8.8 and the trac lock is shot. I autocross my car, and get no traction at all, even with the panhard bar I just put in. I was thinking of rebuilding it by getting new clutches. My dad told me to check out the different packages out there like Eaton or Auburn. I want to get something that is going to hold up and will give me good traction. I only autocross my car 2-3 times per year, so I don’t need anything too crazy, I just want to be able to hit the gas and have both tires hook. What should I do? Rebuild the rear to factory spec or put something better back there? Pros and cons of each? I do not want to waste money either, so if I would be just fine going back to the factory spec, I will do that.

This is a tuff one... If you drive your car hard in the curves with a lot of Accel/Decel (I do, but I don't Auto-X) Then you should look at a new differential that uses gears or a mechanical interface instead. These won't wear out as fast as the stock unit under constant abuse. It would still be limited slip so it won't mess you up in the corners but it will also give both of your tires the ability to push the car when you are shooting out of the corners. I went for an auburn unit because of my plans for the car (if I ever get started on the expensive portion of my plans).

Give the guys' at Auburn a call and ask them for a direction.
