stock carrier to f-150 carrier and stock 28 spline axles to 31spline mosers.
i just finished swapping carriers and axles from 28 spline"mustang" to 31 spline"f150" and rebuilt the trakloc.

the 31 spline axles with 3"studs were 3lbs heavier than the stock axles and studs."EACH" you can see the size diff.

heres the different springs. you can see the f-150 spring is bigger

heres the different size cross pins 3/4" vs 7/8"

heres a close up of my pitted stock axles. look at the wear at the bearing seats

the stock carrier comes with only 6 cluthes "3 per side" but you can do 4 like i had in mine. but the f-150 comes with 8 clutches "4 per side" heres some burnt clutches.

Nice.

So my 93 Notch has 28 spline rear end?

Looks like 31 is the way to go.

Good write-up/post showing the differences.

Weren't the F150 axels longer than the fox mustang axels? What year F150?

axles were aftermarket mosers not f-150. just the carrier is out of a f-150.

i thought some people would enjoy seeing the difference between the heavy-duty carriers vs the stock stang carrier.

For guys who find scuffed bearing surfaces - the surfaces can be "fixed" with an off-set bearing set that rides a litle further out on the axle on the good surface - just the cost of new bearings.

as some of you know I am planning on running three NMRA Factory Stock races for the 2006 season and a complete schedule for 2007.....and well I would have liked to have used moser axles myself, but as luck would have it I have to use what I have to save my budget! Hopefully I can make it thru the first two events BRADENTON,FL and REYNOLDS, GA with my stock traction loc and stock axles.....wish me luck!
