Hi Guys,

I have heard good things about their Fiberglass Shelby Hoods and Scoops but would appreciate some real experience with them. All companies say they are top quality and fit like a glove.

It has been my experience that it is not until you get your hands dirty and test fit do you realize what you have. So, any help would be great. I just do not want to dive into a Shelby kit without a least asking around.

I have their cowl hood, tail panel, deck lid, and quarter extensions. The fiberglass is thick and the fit was like any fiberglass part. Meaning, it will take some time fitting the panels. My hood was severely bowed but I fixed that by reverse clamping some spring steel to the hood and a rose bud. Overall, I am happy with Steve's panels.

The best fiberglass I have found is from Mustangs to Fear. They make an Eleanor fiberglass kit but not sure about Shelby's.

Also, I don't know if this is true or not, but Steve at Rebel told me he had all of Shelby's original fiberglass molds.

I gotta say, having seen a few "real" '67 Shelbys, some of them had great-fitting fiberglass and some was truly awful. I visted a local shop that was doing a resto on a '67 GT500 and the gap at the front of the trunk was so large I could have stuck my thumb in there with room to spare. Oddly enough, before I started fitting the Tony Branda deck lid on my clone, it also had a huge gap on all sides, as did al the Maier stuff up front. But as bad as it was, fiberglass is easy to work with and show-quality gaps and fit are just a matter of patience and persistance.

I had a Rebel real Shelby panel as well as Eleanor side scoops and they both fit like dog crap. I would never use their crap again. I had good luck with fiberglass from Mustangs Unlimited and Maier Racing.

Wow, you must be the only person I've ever heard of that said anything nice about Maier parts. It was by far the worst-fitting stuff I could ever imagine. There was simply no way to even mount the parts on the car without first cutting it into separate parts. The nose on my car had to be cut into 5 separate parts, then bolted on the car, then 'glassed back into one piece. Some of the surfaces were over an inch off! The hood was so narrow the entire fender bolt showed with the hood closed, plus it was too short by about 3/4 of an inch and bowed in the center. All these problems were correctable, but all are typical of Maier's complete lack of effort.
