I remember reading (somewhere) that your average Joe can rebuild either the power steering valve assembly or slave cylinder, but I forgot which one (one of the two takes unique tools or superior skills...or something like that).

Has anyone rebuilt one of these things out of their garage with success?

I rebuilt the control valve for my '66 using the rebuild kit that NPD sells. I don't remember it being too difficult. I just used basic tools and a torque wrench. I took alot of pictures as I dis-assembled it so I would remember how to put it together.

I did the same thing. It was relatively easy, just make sure to take pics, I didnt and had to figure it out again. I ended up alright and the steering works great but wish I had some idea on exactly where everything went.
