Rebuilt engine is useing OIL ?

My rebuilt engine with 700 miles on it is useing oil. Machine shop was supposed to replace all the bad valve guides but not all of them. I was also running a heavy oil 20w 50 . Could this have been a problem with seating the rings ? I was light on it for the first 500 miles for the most part but now I am worried .

My guess is there were more valve guides to be replaced. I am going to try runing a lighter oil to see if its that and the rings have not seated yet. Any other ideas ?

I like to break an engine in on straight 30W non-detergent oil to get the rings to seat. I usually only put 500-1000 miles on it and then change to what I will be running......BTW, next time don't cheap out and change all the valve guides as it is always best to have all components at the same service level IMHO.

Yea I know I am kicking myself now. But machine shop assured me there was no need and it waould save me some money.
