Do you think it is worth it to get a new input shaft which contains 4th gear or use a used one? Also the Cluster and gear 2, 3 are being replaced with new.

If you're putting out the cash for new stuff already...get new. If cashflow is a concern you should be able to get used for a decent price. Just make sure you know what you are getting, or take someone with you that does.

Good Luck...

If your input shaft is messed up, just get another entire trans.

IMO, a t5 is only worth using if it needs a simple rebuild kit, because it pops out of gear, or doesn't go in smooth.

A used T5 in need of a minor rebuild is only worth like $100-$150 bucks. Compiling gears and shafts will likely cost way more than that.

i agree, in my experience, cashflow was a big concern, i bought an '85 t-5 at the j/y for $150 with warranty and used the hard parts i broke in my 87, add in the cost of the rebuild kit, the new input shaft i needed (both i had were ****ed) for $99 and i got a totally rebuilt t-5 for 450 bucks... better than $500 bucks for a used, possibly crap one at the j/y or over $1000 to have a shop rebuild mine and get the hard parts with markup

I had the exact same situation. I decided to buy new just for the fact it was not alot more money in my opinion. Besides if you buy new the trans is all set up, just slap it in.
