Does anyone know if Saleen had a Recall on any of their cars wheels and if so for what years and did Saleen fix or solve the problem?? Chrome Flaking off, Bubbling in the chrome etc...

Todd.

It was mainly on S/C cars but some N/A's had wheels that made the list. You do not need to dismount a tire to see the production date on a Saleen wheel. It's stamped on the inside edge, outer ring near the bead.

Year: 2000
Make: SALEEN
Model: S281SC
Recall Date: 03/08/2002

Type of Report: Vehicle Potential Number of Units Affected: 632
Manufactured: / - / Defect Summary:

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION:
PASSENGER VEHICLES WITH BUMPER NUMBERS BETWEEN 00-760 TO 00-982 AND WITH BUMPER NUMBERS 01-228 TO 01-269. IMPROPER HEAT-TREATMENT OF THE WHEELS HAS OCCURRED. ONE OR MORE OF THE SPOKES ON THE WHEELS COULD CRACK.

Consequence Summary:
THE WHEEL COULD SEPARATE FROM THE VEHICLE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. ALL WHEELS ARE MARKED ON THE INBOARD FLANGE WITH PRODUCTION DATES. THE WHEELS MARKED 7/13/00, 7/14/00, 12/7/00, 12/8/00, OR 12/9/00, ARE SUBJECT TO THIS RECALL.

Corrective Summary:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE WHEELS FOR THE PRODUCTION DATE AND WILL REPLACE ALL AFFECTED WHEELS. OWNER NOTIFICATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING MARCH 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT SALEEN AT 1-949-597-3837

Thanks Marcus for all that info, you the man! I wish my wheels fell into this cateogory since the chrome is bubbling in multiple areas and peeling off! I guess I will have to get a hold of your wheel guy!

Minor peeling began on my wheels shortly after the warrantee expired. crapola

Dennis..............Don't you just hate when that kind of thing happens!

Not only that but coincidentally I just noticed the right front tire is low. The bead has probably corroded again, causing a slow leak. Guess, it’s time for a re-chrome. :bang:

I am shopping wheels for our G35 and they won’t be chrome plated. I’m done with it.

I had my silver wheels replaced by Saleen since they had cracks in the powercoat on 3 out of 4. I paid the difference and 'upgraded' to the chromes. Big mistake... the finish on them is crap. Call Saleen and ask for the warranty department. They exchanged mine even though the warranty was over, you never know unless you make a call.
