Don't know wether to put this in talk or technical but here goes! It seems as if though everything that Ford is recalling about the 99-2000 Gts is Finding me. I over torqued the Temp sensor and had to replace the Intake manifold. Oh and I had the ingenius idea to take out my aftermarket radio w/o disconnecting the battery, a 12 volt wire hits my metal shifter and shorts out my Multi-switch, now I here theres a recall on the multiswitch. I figure it is the switch b/c my windshield wipers and spraying motor have completely stopped working, I took a volt meter to the number 26 fuse in the drivers side, while the key was turned on and I'm and not getting anything through the fuse. Oh yea the fuse is good, so are the relays.
Is there any other recalls I should know about before it finds me again, I'm afraid to drive it in fear of finding something else that could be wrong. Oh yea, if you dont think its the multi-switch, please, please speak up!Stangnet

re-check CJB fuse F2.26(30a)

I think you need to re-check fuse F2.26(30a) in the Central Junction Box (CJB). It does not make sense that you are not getting anything out of it AND the fuse is good.

IMO, the fuse is BLOWN. This makes the most sense after a dead short. Further, there is nothing ahead of the fuse that makes sense to fail except for the CJB itself (unlikely).

IMO, it is also possible that you checked the wrong fuse (don’t take this the wrong way). Before you start throwing things at the problem, I suggest that you check all of the fuses one at a time. Pull the fuse and ohm each one out. The posts are full of people chasing wild geese because of good LOOKING blown fuses.

Also, if you look at the wiring diagrams, power for the wipers and washer motor does not go through the multi function switch. The generic electronic module (GEM) is actually responsible for switching relay power.

Now for the really bad news. IF you have damaged the multi-function switch, you could have just as easily damaged the GEM

Well, it looks like I will checking all the fuses one by one, Hmm, ok. Thanks for the help kilgore. I will try and trouble shoot before thinking the worst. I hope I just blew a fuse! Yea sometime I feel like just putting my tools away but hey that wouldn't improve my situation and don't feel like paying people to work on My vehicle but, its lesson learned that makes more effecient and better people. I will stop drinking during the day time though!

Well Wmburns, after about 20-30 minutes of checking fuses and scratchin' my head, I just bit the bullet and took the multi-switch out and saw somthing out of the ordinary, a white kinda' gluey material on the windshield female part, its in the male part too. Should I get a new multi-switch or should I try to clean this one.

Dont mean to hijack the thread, but Kilgore Trout, or anyone, what the heck is the fix for this one? Mine sticks and the carpet I think is to blame. Earlier today I was actually going to take a razor and cut a section of the carpet out from under the pedal. Thanks.

theres like a bracket shield thing you install to prevent it. only applies to 03.04 cobras.

Di-electric grease. Multi-function switches are rebuildable. When you take it apart take careful attention to the location of springs and such. Lightly sand/file the contacts. Re-grease (di-electric grease such as silicon gease used on spark plugs).

With regards to the fuse, what is the status of the fuse? Have you been able to confirm output to the circuit? Unless there is power coming from the fuse, nothing else is going to work.

Help me understand why you are so certain that the multi-function switch has been toasted (the recall reference seams weak)?

I don't have any information regarding the recall. What model years does it cover? What are the symptions? Information please?

Check fuse F1.4(40a) BJB

Done some additional study of the wiring diagrams. Other fuses that could cause problems with the Washers/wippers are F2.32(15a) in the CJB. Since you stated that ALL fuses in the CJB are good, we will assume this is good.

Next, Fuse F1.4(40a) in the Battery Junction Box (BJB) could also cause the this. The circuit also powers the radio.

F1.4 blown would also explain why no power in fuse F2.26.

Until power is confirmed out of F2.26, any other work is a waste of time (IMO).

Diagram of BJB attached.

only cobras with the thing from the factory that makes a loud whining noise when you step on the go pedal.

Heres what I concluded, I did an ohm test on the windshield wiper female part, and they don't even come close to what the haynes guide tells me, so I went and did a volt meter test on the 1, 4, 6, male part coming from the dash board, and the read 5 volts, normal, except the 4th one, I'm am assuming that its the ground wire, didn't think so b/c it wasn't black but, b/c its not black dosn't mean its not a ground wire, the guide says it uses the combinations 1-4 and 4-6, so there must be ground and the ones getting the power go back the the relays and back to the multi-switch to complete the circuit, somewhat! So I am going to buy a new multi-switch, somehow I fried my switch when I overloaded the circuit but, what baffles me is there are no blown fuses. Ahhh, the mystery of electricity! Some more advice would much appreciated though. The multi-switch is a pretty basic swap. Un-bolt and bolt. Oh, yea, I turn the key to on and checked the fuse for power going through it, and 0 but, it dawned on me its not going to get any power unless the relays get power to complete the circuit, the ground wire must be connected to that fuse!!! Wish me Luck

Did you check the fuse F1.4 in the BJB (battery junction box located in the engine bay near the battery)?

If you take a look at the wiring diagrams, the actual load power does NOT go through the multi-switch. The fuses are AHEAD of the control points including the relays.

I am 100% sure that your wipers will not work until there is power in both Fuse F1.4 and F2.26 (switch on/acc). No power, no funtion.

At this point, I think you should finish the work on the multi-switch. Then you can know for sure what the solution to the problem is.

Yea, both fuses are intact! But, the ohms on the multi-switch are very off!
