Red Oxide Primer - undercarriage question

I have blasted my undercarriage and am cleaning up the frame rails and preparing for a coating. I would like to use the "Red Oxide Promer" to get that nice original look. However, I would like to really treat the car with a good rust froom seal first. Has anyone done this before spraying with the red oxide primer?

I usually see POR product or liner coating etc.

I would like that factory red primer look with the POR style treatment to avoid the rust.

Do they make the other under body products in the red oxide color?

You really should be able to spray a red oxide primer right over a POR 15 coating. POR 15 is a primer, so it'll allow good adhesion and give you the effect you're looking for, while also protecting the undercarriage.

Well I was talking with a buddy who is a mustang guru, he said only cars made in California had the red oxide primer. Such as the shelby etc. My car is a dearborn. He mention it should (a Dearborn car) properly have a snotty green color instead of the red oxide for the under carriage.

Anyone have a clue where I can find the correct coating?

POR 15 is a rust converter and the only top coats that adhere well to it (without special preparation) is POR 15 Top-Coats which are available in a small variety of colors.

Once cured, primer will not adhere to the slick POR 15 surface. To get a non-POR 15 primer to stick to the rust converter, you need to do a light spatter primer coat while POR 15 is tacky. After curing, you can do regular any-brand primer coats.

You can also use RustSeal paint which some vendors are now carrying instead of POR-15. It comes in colors including Red Oxide. We keep it on the shelf but it's got a much higher sheen than the original coating put on the car, which is appealing to some people. We are doing a 67 Prostreet car we used it on, I'll post a picture later.
