Redesigned my CAI

I had my Mac fenderwell CAI sitting on a shelf in the garage for a while so I
decided to chop it up and have the filter inside the engine compartment.
It was a pita to get to. Made a couple of cuts to the tubing, made a new gasket
and bent and flipped the mounting bracket around..... Bam a straight shot CAI
Massive hp increase, not really, but it sounds good. anyone else tried
to alter or customize your intake?

Sure you didn't lose power? All that is is a stock intake with no heat shield and heat-absorbent metal tubing. I'd put back whatever you had in there while the MAC was on the shelf.

well i kinda did the same for free on my POS satty...but I wouldnt to the stang. i mean sure, it looks good, but it just makes it hotter and takes power...

Congrats, now you're picking up hot air.

I had to do this to my 90, but it was only because someone had taken the inner wheelwell out, and it's a daily driver so it was getting covered in road****. It was more of a reliability issue. One day I will get around to finding a wheelwell though so I can change it back.

A guy who builds club class le mans cars for rich guys re welded my Steeda CAI to fit under mt strut tower brace sicne after i put a 75mm TB+Plenum on it was too high. I asked him to just cut into the STB to make iot fit but he rewelded the tubing and turned it down from the TB and altered it closer to the air inlet

yeah I know what you guys mean.... this is more like an experiment.
actually it feels better when its its cool outside in the morning or at night. I will
probably put my K&N with silencer removed back on at least for the summer
months. Plus I can easily make a heat sheild to fit cause we have a machine
shop hereat work. Even when it heats up it still runs fine. Dont a lot of guys who
race a lot run open filters like that?

I don't think that it's much of a heat difference. I mean, if its in the fender and its 90 degrees out .... or under the hood when you start moving and the air blows over it .. I think it may be picking up some more heat but nothing to make a noticeable difference IMO. Make a shield for it and it will be good to go.

This is what i did with my ol' mac cai....I was expiriencing like a choking feel at wide open throttle,and remembered that the ol' 5.0 days that the stock rubber tubing would collapse,a myth i guess,so i took the old cai i bought,but took off as quick as i bought it back in '03,and this year i decided to finally fab her up to the stock air box.I also painted it to rid of the chrome that attracts heat.So far it works for that,but not sure yet at the track for the WOT as i am in the process of braking in my new clutch,and trans after having the tsb fix done to it.
So now i got a tubing that flows well,and doesn't collapse,doesn't seem to be soaking heat really that bad(you can actually touch it without burning your hands....LOL!!),still in the stock location for the mass air,and doesn't have a 90* bend before the mass air.Plus this is temparery until i get the rest of the parts i need to install my Bullitt intake sitting in my basement.

The only thing he did differently was convert a CAI to a RAI minus the heat shield . Definitely a lot easier to get to ur filter which is what i'm going to have to do this wknd, what a pain in the arse .

Good job, looks clean. Stock airbox is really a pretty nice invention by Ford imo! With the silencer removed or trimmed it's the best filter housing you can get!

I thought the samething about the stock air box.I did cut the opening a tad bigger.Actually,the opening still looks stock the way i cut it.

It's actually pretty easy,just undo the whole stock air intake system,then slide it out,then you will see the rubber snorkel on the air box,and all you have to do is pop it of,then put the system back into place.

Yes, the heat shield would be a good idea. I personally think the straight shot style (non fenderwell) cold air intakes work the best. Once you get moving, your IATs drop like a rock....but your intake is less restrictive. Good job!

And also good job 1low, your intake looks great as well!
