Hey guys. I've had my 94 Cobra for almost a year and i love it to death. I have no problems with the engine as of yet, and it has 140k miles on it. But while I was "cruising" tonight my friend was watchin my rpm's. He noticed that I redline at 5k instead of 6k where the redline actually starts. I already knew that and never paid any mind, but he was talkin a lot about it and said i'm losing 1k of potential rpm. I just wanted to see where you guys redline at so I could know if im fine or if i'm behind

I myself have a 94 cobra, I shift a little after 5grand, it just feels like it isnt pulling as hard after that so I shift. The 5.0 shines down low not up top in the rpm band.

I know exactly what you mean. I can actually feel the car not pulling anymore and stutter a bit as I hit 5k. I dunno man, i just that if the gauge says redline at 6k, i should be hittin it at about 6k, not 5k.

Your optimum shift point for the stock motor and gearing is right about 5300 rpm. I'm actually not too sure about the Cobra, but with the stock GT, the points are about 5400/5200/4900/5200 (2nd,3rd,4th,5th).

You are aiming to shift at a point where you will end up with the same tractive effort in the next gear as you have in the current gear.

If you really want to find your optimum shift points, you'll need a dyno sheet. I'm sure someone here has a sheet with a stock Cobra's torque curve.

Don't worry about "losing 1k of potential rpm" becuase you will be losing a few hundred pounds of tractive effort if you stay in gear! Crazyness.
