Reinstalling Vibration Damper....

Hello,
When I removed my vibration damper to get my timing cover off i marked the damper and pulley because my Haynes manual said they're balanced as one piece. So i have those marked so that i can line them up properly together when i reinstal them. However, i was wondering, does it not matter how it is lined up with the crank? If i put it on upside down from how it was does it not make any difference? I got a feeling this is a dumb question but i dont know much about these parts and it seems if its wrong it could be a really serious screw up. Better safe than sorry... A bonus question: When i put my thermostat back in, should the pointed side face the intake or the radiator? Hope that question is clear. Thanks a lot,

you wont be able to put the harmonic balancer on in any other way than the way it came off. its got a key way on it that lines up with a groove on the crankshaft. as far as the tstat goes, put the end with the spring in the intake....so i guess the pointed side would face the radiator. good luck
