Remote trunk release cable routing?

How is the cable on a remote trunk release supposed to be routed? If I run it in the rocker panel the cable will interfere with the sill plate.

How is the cable on a remote trunk release supposed to be routed? If I run it in the rocker panel the cable will interfere with the sill plate.

I cut slit in the carpet on the inside of the rocker/sill area. It routes behind the carpet till it can go past the rear seat and up into the cavity behind the rear quarter panel. Then into the trunk lid bracing. It took a lot of fine tuning adjustment to get to release and not hold the latch open.
