I've searched and could not find the answer to my question. I need to remove the overhead console (location of the map lights and convertible top switch). I've consulted the Ford Service Manual, and all it says is:

Remove the overhead console.

Here is the image from the headliner removal procedure.

I'm guessing that it is some sore of pressure connection. If you look at the illustration, it looks as though the "hooks" are towards the windshield. I've tried squeezing every which way I can, but still have not yet been able to remove it.

Anyone removed this before? Can give me some pointers? Thanks.

It just pops off. Pull on the side closest to the back of the car.

Just pull on the back of it. I did mine to replace the lights

Thanks for the response guys. I pulled every which way, but just couldn't get a good hold of it to release it from it's fittings. I ventured up with a small flat blade screw driver, and that helped. Now knowing what it looks like up there, I know how to attack it going forward.

I took mine off to see if there is any way that I can integrate a display for Radar/laser detector into it so that it's hidden and not sitting on my dash

I was looking to integrate a homelink transmitter up there. I've seen another one integrated, and it looked slick. But, that was in a coupe. With the convertible switch there, there's no room up there. So... gonna place it somewhere else.

I've been checking out different remote display radar/laser detectors to see which one works the best. Unfortunately I don't have $1500 to spend on a Escort Passport 9500ci radar/laser detector with laser shifters (jammers)

If I am going to chop up the overhead console to fit a detector, I'm only going to do it once......
