It's a couple of bolts and some hoses. You can either reroute a shorter belt, or get a smog pump delete kit, which is just an idler pulley.

ya i had intentions of reroute with smaller belt...know the size by chance

Most of them are about 89.5". You need to reroute it the opposite way around water pump and crank pulley.

alright...thanks for the help...it helps a ton,considering autozone is 8 miles from my house and i would be doing the test & swap...

Not sure how each state/locality tests, but you're guaranteed to fail a visual inspection, and it's highly likely to fail a sniffer test, although I don't really understand how the emissions system works to say definitively.

I seriously doubt any emissions place is going to be able to tell that you have removed your smog pump. I wouldn't worry about the visual at all, they generally just look at the catalytic converters. The smog pump is there to bring the converters up to temperature. Once the car has reached operating temperature, it serves no purpose. That is why most modern cars have electric smog pumps. Removing the smog pump should have no effect on your emissions test, so long as you give the car for 15 minutes prior to the sniffer.

Alaska IM looks at everything, under the hood, under the car...

They also require the car to cool down prior to hooking it up, so you're getting cold start data.

I'd certainly recommend doing some detailed research on your particular state's requirements before you go pulling everything.

The car is currently registered in california but im registering it in illinois where we dont have smog or emissions of vehicles 96 or older. So im taking off the smog pump,cat's and all stock choker parts!

I think the biggest pain in the butt is removing the crossover tube that bolts to the back of the heads. Super easy if the trans is out!

The size I put on my car with A/C and no smog was 905K6 which is a 90 1/2" belt. It is tight too, took a few minutes to muscle it on there.

hmmm, you might want to add that to your original post so folks can recommend the proper belt for ya. I've never taken my A/C system out so I'm afraid I don't have an answer for you. We Floridians can't survive without our A/C!

On a side note, if you're interested in selling the huge A/C line that runs from the condensor to the compressor and back to the firewall, I really need one of those.

im in cali desert myself right now...and i am use to the heat...it sucks but ive done it without a/c for so long that im ok...and im sorry but it is already sold to a friend with a 94 gt out here that needed it,might be able to locate ya one tho!
