Removed smog pump and lines, can I remove the smog radiator thing too?

Well, I removed all smog stuff from my stang.

there are think pipes going from the hoeses that connected to the smog pump to a raditator type looking thing....I would remove it but it appears it's the same unit that the transimissin radiator is connected to....

my question is can I just remove both of them and buy a seperate unit to cool the trans? thanx

I highly recommend that you lean what all that "Smog stuff" does before you remove it. Removing some of the smog gear can put the computer into limp mode, which reduces performance considerablely.

Here's a book that will get you started with how the Ford electronic engine control or "computer" works.

Smog radiator? I'm not sure what your referring to. It sounds more like your describing your A/C condensor and A/C lines

Maybe I'm too tired, but I cant imagine what it is that looks like a heat exchanger in the A.I.R. system.

Maybe the previous owner hooked an intercooler to the smog pump? Sorry, but that vision just makes me laugh.

I have all my smog stuff and don't remember seeing any radiatior.... Maybe a difference between mas air and SD cars but I doubt it. Sorry I can't imagine what it could be.

No it isn't attatched to the trans cooler. The A/C condensor is mounted in front of the radiator. The trans cooler is built into the drivers side of the radiator. There are two A/C lines that run to the condensor on the passenger side, one of them then runs to the passenger side firewall very close to the smog pump but it doesn't connect in any way to the smog system.

If you don't want air conditioning anymore then yes you can remove it. But if it has a full charge it is best to have it evacuated first. You don't want a face full of freon when you pull the line loose.

Boy, heeding Jrichker's advice (along with getting a shop manual for the car too) is going to be a wise wise investment.

I like to be very familiar with systems and also a given car before I start needlessly removing things.
That might just be me though.

i have removed all my smog equipment, however i kept it because i noticed alabama is wanting to start smog testing in the birmingham area,therefore the hole state is soon to follow.also i have incurred no problems after removing smog equipment.the car actually picked up some.the only problem you may encounter is after removing e.g.r valve,the check engine light will come on.the car will run ok but light will come on.i found an e.g.r simulator on e-bay motors that will make that part of wiring a closed loop and tells computer everything is working properly.it costs like $29.00. e.g.r doesnt work at idle,it only functions at full throttle.i found this out through the a book i purchased called ford fuel injection&electronic engine control for 1988-1993.

ok, I just finished looking at it..........there is a freaking pipe going from the carcoal canister in the into a area infront of the radiator.

The EGR works at part throttle highway cruising. Its not worth anything to get rid of it so you might as well keep it.
