removing airbag sensors...

My wire hiding project is continuing nicely. I'm was wondering what the airbag system would do if I removed the airbag sensors to clean up the wiring near the rad.

Honestly, airbags scare me and I'd rather have a pre-90 anyways.

Thanks in advance,

I read on here somewhere that you have to leave the battery diconnected for so long (I think 20 min) to shut the system off or something. Search "5.0 Tech" for "airbag". Should be in there somewhere. Personally I wouldn't mess with them.

Thanks for the replies guys. The battery has been disconnected for a day now, and the sensors are disconnected as well. My fear is that I hook the battery back up without the sensors being connected and blow the airbag.

It sounds like I can cut off the airbag sensor connectors, insulate the loose leadwire, and not have airbags anymore.

The air bag will not go off if the sensors are removed. Personally would leave the air bag. Also, I've read that if you are injured in an accident with a disabled air bag the insurance may not cover your injuries. Not to mention you may not pass inspection (if you need it) without them.

if you so much as breathe on those damn things you'll have a flashing AIR BAG light what will never go away!!! I hate it!

edit: just make sure to probably take out the fuse and there is also a sensor in the passenger side of the car if that matters as well as a backup power system somewhere in the dash i believe. Not sure if your into removing everything tho

I been considering disabling mine for a while now. I have shorter legs and I have to sit pretty far forward and I know there are warnings on newer cars about "Serious Personal Injury Or Death" if you are too close to the air bag when it goes off. Quite frankly the thought of my head rolling around on the highway scares the hell out of me.

All that will happen is that you will have an airbag light on or blinking all the time and your airbag will not deploy if you are in a collision. If you can live with that, go for it. Your airbag will not blow up in your face as a result of this.
