Got back to working on my 66 finally. I had to remove the console today to get the shifter out to replace the bushings.

The console was already cracked but I know I can repair it without issue.

The question is how is the console suppose be removed without causing damage to it? The shift lever really get in the way. Or maybe I should ask how is it suppose to be installed without causing damage?

TIA

With the shifter handle removed, I put the tranny in low gear. The console will then slide over it with care. Be careful you do not snag the plastic cable guides...they are not repo'd that I know of.

On mine, the front of the console needs to be kind of rolled under the dash from the drivers side. The console works in from and angle of the front pointed at the gas pedal and the rear pretty much close to in place except for twisting down.

It all is just trial and error but be gentle. My biggest problem was the brace in front on the tranny hump.

Hey where are you in AZ, I am in Tucson.

The front screws were just a couple of sheet metal screws in mine.

We lived in Phoenix, Tucson, (Air Force) and last was Safford (semi retired) for 35 years. Retired a couple years ago, went full time RV and stopped driving when we got to Florida. We are currently in Panama City, Fl....may never leave.
