Can anyone tell me how to remove the headrest from my leather seats in my 02? My goal is to remove the worthless seatbelt loops.

Well here's the problem. I'm 6'2". I have to sit with the seat as far back as it will go and in that position, the seatbelt would actually have to go down & back to get through the loop, then forward around me. There's no possible way it helps my situation in a wreck. Every time I tried running the belts through the loops, they always sliped out of the loops.

I took the loops off without removing the headrest. I have a flexible extension for my cordless drill, I inserted the torx (sp) bit into it, tilted the headrest and they came right off.

Pull up the headrest as far as it'll go (about 2") -- take a piece of a wire coathanger about 14-18" long and slide it down the groove on the front of the headrest shaft. (It's easier to go under the plastic grommet-like piece) When you feel the wire bottom out, press down firmly and you should feel a click. Now you can slide the headrests up and out.

this is what i did also, plus i bought a set of kenny brown seat extender rails. they gave me another 4 inches of travel and were an easy bolt in. and they work with my power seats just fine....
I think I will get those as I am 6'1" myself.
Well, I got the suckers off. Car looks great without them and they no longer constantly get in my way when I'm trying to grab my seatbelt to buckle it.
the only problem i ran into was the lower seatbelt mounting bracket has to be moved, with the extended track, the housing is in the way when the seat gets reinstalled. I just unbolted it and moved it out of the way, my mechanic said he can easily weld it a few inches back...i don't really wear a seatbelt that often so i don't mind this.

i'm with ya! if your tall they are useless, if your tall and thick they are downright uncomfortable...i have wide shoulders and could never use the seatbelt guide.

i was in a head on accident in january, the airbags deployed and the impact was rather violent...to sum it up, i was not wearing my seatbelt and sustained minor injuries mainly from knees in the dash and airbag impact. My girlfriend who always wears her seatbelt sustained major neck, back, shoulder and pelvic injuries.....ALL CAUSED BY THE SEATBELT!!!!!!! now this was not a mustang i was in, i would be dead if it was.(gotta love Lexus/Toyota safety) but this was confirmed by the doctors that the majority of her injuries were caused or enhanced by the seatbelt. Not saying don't wear them though..lol
Hadn't thought about that. Yeah in a vert it would definately need to stay. In a coupe (like mine) pretty much worthless unless you sit with the seat way forward.Kilgore Trout said:
All you do to make the loop work is twist the belt once as you're pushing it in to the loop. This makes the belt sort of a U-shape which is too big to go back out through the little slit. That's how they work. And the point of them is to keep the seatbelt in an easily accesible spot when not being worn because of the seat placement vs seatbelt assembly mounting placement which is like 6 inches behind the seat.
