how can i remove pinstriping (the stick on kind)that has been on my car since shortly after the car was purchased in 1988.these are 9 pinstripes that run along the body moulding down both sides of the car.the stripes are really baked on there from years of sun.i think if i try to pick at them with like a fingernail or something they will pull the paint up with them.they are stuck on that bad.any good ideas will be greatly appreciated because i would really like them off. thankyou.

I used a razor blade and very very carefully picked away till I could pull it off. It shouldn't pull the paint up, I polished the car afterwards and you can't tell it was ever there.

You also might want to try a product called "Goo-Gone" it is made to dissolve adhesive residue and won't hurt the paint it is at the hardware store in the paint or cleaner section. You may want to try a hairdryer or a heat gun on low to soften the pinstripe first then use the razor blade tecnique as mentioned above. That is how I did mine.

Don't use a razor blade. If you're not careful you could scratch or gouge the paint.

Take your time, and work on about 6-10 inches of a stripe at a time.

Heat the stripe a bit with a heat gun (use the 'low' setting) to soften it, then gently scrape it off with the edge of a soft plastic scraper -- like the ones used for applying Bondo.

Use Goo-Gone to help get off the real stubborn pieces. It is likely the stripes will be brittle, so you probably won't be able to just pull an entire stripe off all at once.

Plan on doing it in stages. It sounds like you have a lot of stripes, and you will get tired of working on it. Expect the paint under the stripes to be a bit darker than the rest of the car due to fading or other discoloration.

Polish the car up afterwards.

Use hot water, or the goo gone stuff. hair dryer may not work on really old ones. NO RAZOR BLADES!
