I am right in the middle of doing the t5 swap on my car and when I went to remove my starter it seems someone rounded the bolts off. Can I remove the starter with the bell housing so I can work on it on the bench? Thanks.

No you can't because there is a aluminum plate that is behind the flywheel but all the bell housing and starter bolts go through. you will have to find a way to get those bolts out. pound a smaller socket on them.

You may want to take the passenger front wheel off to access the top starter bolt easier. Otherwise I dont see how you could ever access this bolt if it is somewhat rounded. Usually you go in through the front above the control arm. Try my method and see if you can get to it easier.

Good Luck trying to pound a socket on them. I have a hard time getting my fingers in there let alone a hammer to start bashing a socket on.

I just went to Sears and got a set of bolt out removers....complete set on sale for today and tomorrow for $20! Hopefully they will work.

Good luck...I HATE those things. Great at removing or finishing the rounding process on the heads, but bad for removing the bolts. Same goes for their screw removers. These do make great countersink bits though.

I know your not stupid, but be sure to get good quality new bolts once you get the old ones out and use the correct sized socket when you reinstall them so they don't round out again.
