well im going to start the engine bay clean up this weekend...before i start though i want to make sure i will have every thing i had read lots of things on it and the only part that im unsure of is the EGR everyone says you have to keep it connected and move the plunger half way!!! WTF i want it out of the bay thats the point of the clean up....what is another option that someone else has done??....whats the worst that will happen if i just unplug it?

They make a cap off for it.................and a dummy for the CEL.........you can also have it turned off when u tune it I think

Hey buddy, just did this as well.

Used a block off plate from wazee and a EGR simulator from a guy with the ebay name c182-pilot.

Just search on ebay for wazee and c182-pilot.

the plate was like 7 bucks and the simulator was 25.

cool i knew you could use a 351 c fuel pump block off plate but i need to get one of those dummy plugs good looking out....and will lol i couldn't see just getting a tune to turn off my egr lol this is something i wanna do till next winter

the only real way to disable the egr is through a custom tune. all the other little tricks to try and keep it from throwing a code are band aids that are a prayer at best.

so all i have to deal with is a code?? because that dosent bother me at all i already have a code so i probley wouldn't even notice it lol...the tune will come with the engine build so if for one summer all i gotta do is look at a flashing light no problem with me..

Well in that case a piece of black electrical tape can fix that...............

also a major decrease in gas milage and a bunch of pinging. at least that was my experience. the only way i would get rid of the egr is if it is turned off in the ecu.

This is something I've wanted to get with Don about for awhile now (or anyone that has DL'd and knows). On fox processors, under certain conditions you can disable the EGR and the puter realizes the EGR is not moving and turns off the EGR function all by itself (self-tuning not needed).

I wonder if there is a *known* way to do this on a 94-95 (or if the puter was programmed around this, which would be dumb since EGR's do crap out on their own so having the puter self-diagnose and turn it off is common-sense). We sure have seen that enough folks have had EGR issues or tried to disable it and got pinging (as 420 and others noted).

When I installed my new Bassani headers the egr tube was too short. For a temporary fix (still haven't fixed it yet) I cut the tube in half and installed a penny between the tube fitting. I haven't had any codes with it like that and I even had to get the car smogged and it passed (I had the factory heat shield still on the tube so the tech didn't know it was blocked).

Here is what I know to be certain ......

You can disable it with a pcm value change

Here is what I've seen others say .......

If you don't disco the electrical or mechanical part
The pcm don't know if you have done other things to it
such as
Remove the pipe or other things

the only right way to remove the egr is to disable it with a tuning device. all the plunger trick will do is keep the cel from coming on. the computer is still going to think the egr is there and function as such. this can lead to part throttle driveability problems. if you dont have a tweecer, or other similar tuning device, i would recommend leaving the egr attached even though it is an eye sore in the engine bay.
