Removing the molding stripe?

Has anyone ever tried/succeded in removing the stripe from the molding on the 80's foxes? Is it as easy as just peeling it off with a razor and cleaning it up, or would it require painting? It is just a vinyl sticker, right?

I cleaned it up really good and just went over it with new pin strypes on my old 83
