Removing Window Glass

Hey Fellow Stangers,

I need some help here. I am worried that I am about to get in over my head. My g/f's 66 is leaking around the windows. It is not very noticeable in the back but water drips in on your feet in the front. Is there a way that I can put some sealer around the window without it looking like a "fix"? If not, how hard is it to pull the windows out and re-install them? I am sure that I can pull them out but what is involved with putting them back in. Is there any other source of water entry on the front? I know about the cowls but I have a cover over those and it seals very tightly. I do not think the water is coming in there. I want to get this fixed before it rots the floors (no rot there now). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hate to break it to you but.......The cowl leaks. Cowl cover or not, water is getting in there. Thus the wet feet. It's a$1200 shop repair but only a $200 dollor repair if yo do it yourself ($100 for new cowl panels (2), windhield gasket $15, drill bits or spot weld cutters $30-$40 and primer or such to protect your work. This is under the impression you have access to a welder of your own. If not, cheap mig goes for about $200.

I agree with Geostang351, make sure you get a real GOOD look at the cowl from inside the car. If it is ok water could be coming from the windshield gasket leaking, the wiper gaskets leaking or the cowl. Don't want to get you down but it's probably the cowl leaking somewhere.

On a dry day, run a waterhose or a bucket of water down into your cowl, avoiding your windshield. You'll know right away if it's leaking or not.

Moral of this story -- verify the source of the leak before you start trying to fix it. The hose trick works, I had to spend a couple of hours with that and a helper to finally find the leak when I reinstalled my windshield after new headliner. You'll drive yourself nuts trying to fix a leak that you can't accurately place, and water can run a LOOOOONG way along wires and other edges before it starts dripping.

It could be the windshield, mine is. I did the water trick and nothing so I put on a cowl cover and sealed it with vaccum grease and hosed the windshield. Flood! I can see where someone squirted goopy black stuff in places and tried to seal it but it didn't work. If this is your case, be aware that you may find rust that will need to be properly fixed before reinstalling the windshield. As far as the install, I'm sure there is a post here but it may have been lost. Maybe someone will have a link to help you out.
