my drivers side door handle interior and exterior have always had extra play in them. tonight i got ambitious and went to replace my door handle. i got it back installed, and im having the same exact problem.

the door handle opens just like the passenger side which is perfect, but when it gets to that release point, its like it flexes a little more before it opens. so it feels like the handle is going to damn near snap off. it opens just fine if you put a little pressure going into the door. my interior handle is identical to it, so i have narrowed it down into the one piece that all linkage goes to.

is this a common failed item? im not quite sure what to buy to fix this. somehow though its not tentioned enough for the handles, or some linkage is stretched possibly? any input on this?

im just pissed i took all the time for the handle and hunted down the bolts/nuts for nothing :bang:

Sounds like either the rods or the plastic retainer clips have worn. Over time the rods tend to bend a bit. If you take the door panel off and check it out you can see if they are out of wack or not. You can try straightening them but chances are they now have a weak spot. I'm sure www.50resto.com has both the rods and clips. They have a nice selection of misc stuff. Good luck with it

i glanced through my 50resto catalog and saw the plastic piece for 3 bucks. didnt see the rods, will have to look closer.

thanks for the input, i had until now, never heard of the rods/plastic piece being an issue. wish i knew before hand :nonono:
