replacement for the 95

it's time for me to sell the 95... i wanted to get a sporty car thats also economical, so on wednesday, i bought a 2003 sonic blue SVT focus! it has about 76,000 miles, nice paint, and plenty of upgrades including a set of nitto NT01's for the track. it will be my daily driver and i will occasionally autocross it- it's going to pretty dang well in both categories!!

it has H&R springs, adjustable koni's, front and rear adjustable camber plates (can change camber +/- 1 degree in less than 30 minutes- very trick!), chassis brace, goodyear eagle F1's, drilled & slotted rotors, EBC green stuff pads, cai, UD crank pulley, power chip, and high flow cat. also came with the factory upgraded "audiophile" sound system with 6 disk in-dash changer and 8" sub that sounds awesome and gives the mach 460 a run for its money!

to my great surprise, it's as fast as the 95 (with 3.73s and a catback) from a roll, and it'll probably do just as well off the line. it has a 6-speed with factory STS, factory HID's, gets over 30mpg on the freeway, handles and brakes very well, seats 5, great luggage capacity, weighs about 2500 pounds, and it has FOUR cupholders!!! :nice:

the only downside to the svt package is that it doesnt have a center console. it's a weird feeling after being able to rest my arm in the mustang for the past 3 years... the only problems with this particular car is- it was in a light accident and had to replace the front bumper. whoever was doing the work did it as cheap as possible and put a stock focus bumper on it, and did not prep it very well before paint. the color matches, but the quality is terrible. the hood also doesnt line up well with the headlight near the drivers side fender.

weather has been crummy the past couple days, but i managed to get some decent pictures when the rain stopped for a few hours.

I absolutely LOVE my SVTF. Buying it has been one of the best decisions I've made and to be honest when it comes time to replace it I'll have a hard time finding a car that matches it in power, economy, and handling. I autocrossed mine last year and despite being 100% stock other than a set of Dunlop Direzza Star Spec tires I took 1st place in every event I entered and I ran a full season in my local region and event went to an out of region event. If I drive it conservatively, coast when I can, and shift it 1-3-6 at no higher than 2000rpms in each gear I'll see over 33mpg in mine, and that is more city than highway. The best MPG I've had in it was 35.6 on a trip to Cleveland which is about 4hrs away. If I drive it "spirited" I'll get 26-28mpg. Enjoy your new SVTF!

God i wish i had the cash for a SVT.... Me and the g/f both have zx3's hers has the svt suspension I GOT 360 Miles on my last tank of gas! My zx3 i bought over a year ago for $2800 with a salvage title (Tree fell on it)... has a few leaks only 90k on it when i bought it its got 120k on it now all that i had to do was change the brake pads and the tstat housing(cheap plastic).... The g/fs we got a month ago for $3000 with 119k on it needed a heater core and alt but now runs perfect!

I had an auto ZX3 prior to my SVTF and I loved that car too. The best tank of fuel I ever had I managed to get 390miles out of, but that with me really trying to get as much as I could from it. It "may" have made it to 400 but I didn't want to chance it as it was on E. That was the absolute maximum I ever had from the car though. That ZX3 actually had a bigger fluctuation in MPG than the SVTF does with different driving styles, and I've gotten better highway MPG from the SVTF than I ever did from my auto ZX3, but I'm not surprised by that. My buddy has a brand new focus and he's getting 35mpg+ with it, its a 2 door manual.

These really are great cars, its just unfortunate that they were great when they came out nearly 8 years ago, but since then very little has changed. I'm anxiously awaiting the debut of the next gen focus that is based on last years Euro version.

Nice score there Wade - it sounds like a fun little car. They're faster than I imagined.

It's nice to have a fun DD that you can beat on while you're doing the driveline swap on the '68.

Have fun! :nice:
