After yet another day of tinkering with the butchered wiring on my '66 and getting nowhere, I've finally decided I gotta rip it all out and start over.

Any suggestions as to which is the easiest / best replacement harness? I hear lots of people talk about the Painless offerings - are they any good? Are there any others?

You can buy a stock harness from any of the major Mustang vendors that will be just like original. Painless uses better wire but they are not for beginners from what I have heard. They don't tell you exactly how to hook everytjing up; some electrical knowledge is needed. I have read several posts here where people couldn't figure out what wire to hook where.

I have a painless harness installed in my car.

The biggest issue was the steering column wiring, they give a list of what the wires in your column probably will be. But if you do a search on the board for my wiring questions you should easily beable to figure out the column, the wipers, and the heater. Those 3 items are what the manual doesnt cover.

Painless

I am in the middle of a Painless wiring install and can confirm that it has given me quite a bit of Pain. I have not been able to call their tech line, because they are open while I'm at work. Part of this kit could be installed by a small child and other parts would require an electrical engineer. I CAN NOT figure out the wiper motor, switch and pump. The pictures look nothing like my motor or switch. There are too many wires for the motor and not enough for the switch or vice versa, I really can't recall. My pump (brand new) has only one wire connector, but there are two wires to connect to it (not ground). I'm also having trouble with heater connections. Overall I really like the quality of this kit and it looks fantastic. It's just a bit beyond my skill level. Do you like spaghetti? Then here's a pic....
