I'm in the process of replacing my exhaust system and I've run into a slight problem and need some advice. Is there an easy (or even mediumly difficult) way to get the tailpipe hanger out of the rubber mount? I don't want to destroy the mount 'cause I need it to hang the new system. I'm talking about the rod that is attached to the stainless part of the tail pipe immediately in front of the rear bumper.

I think you can unbolt the metal part of the hanger at the frame can't you? Its been a while. Or try spraying it with alcohol for a lubricant. Alcohol will not deteriorate it. Thats what we used at the plant to put the rubber grommets on the ac lines. If you do tear the rubber mount up, I bought new ones for my car at Advanced Auto for $3.95 each.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't know you could get replacement ones at the parts store. I guess that means that I don't have to worry about them. I guess that means that I can get it finished today.

Just make sure your parts store carries them before you tear anything up. They do look slightly different but they worked just fine.

I've always used WD40 too, and it works great. I never considered whether WD40 would cause the rubber to deteriorate, but I've never noticed a problem with it.

Like bubba-dough said, the ones from a parts store probably won't look the same. As long as the holes are right about the same distance apart, they should work fine.

If you're picky, 5.0resto has them:

Look towards the bottom of the page.

WD40 and dish washing liquid works great to get them in and out. After that, just a bit of muscle, might want to wear some gloves and goggles to protect your hands and dirt and rust getting in your eyes.
