Replacing Mech. Fuel Pump, any tips?

Its my first time replacing a mechanical fuel pump. Just wondering if any one had some pointers, so far my learning by takeing things apart has gone well, I just dont want to break any thing now.

Oh ya, and I guess its been a while since ive been on here just thought I'd let you all now I get engaged in december and our wedding is in September.

Disconnect the fuel lines and remove the two pump bolts. Remove old pump, install new and hook it all back up. Thats all there is to it. Be sure to use a new gasket.

Any time you are working around Gasoline....BE very careful..........the WORST thing in the world is to be BURNT!

Also be sure to get the pump arm, UNDER the fuel pump eccentric To help this out, you may have to roll the crank around some to get the eccentric at it's highest point, so that the pump arm goes in under it without having to use force to push the pump body down to start the bolts.

This is by far the hardest part of the whole install. Sometimes it can be a pain to try and push the pump into position and get the bolts started.

The only other tip I can give is make sure to get a good gasket and watch out for frozen fittings. Sometimes those lines can get frozen onto the fittings, when you start backing the fitting out, you end up turning the metal line with it.

AND DON'T Get gasoline all over. Be ready to plug lines or put a pan underneath to collect it.

I would also suggest an upgrade at this point to a Carter Fuel Pump. I believe Summit still carries these and they are not that expensive. Better, spring, arm and housing. Still running mine after 9 years of laps.

You might want to buy all of your parts before the wedding.
