Replacing shocks/springs, what to go with??

Hey guys I got an estimate on replacing the 4 shocks and 2 rear springs on my 91 gt. They said about 487 dollars for all of this and the parts will be OEM. How much would I be looking at if I were to lower the car?? Is this a good deal or do you think I should lower it instead?? IF lowered, how much more would that be and what kit would you recommend?? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

I received a similar quote for OEM parts in Greenville, SC from a reliable shop.

I have chosen to go the lowered route (this is going to be a street handling car, not just a straight line dragster).

Personally, I am a fan of Tokico (I went with non-adjustable HP Blues because of their lower price). BBK makes nice springs and it seems you can't go wrong with Eibach kits.

Multiple performance product companies out there offer some complete kits (Steeda for example)...many argue these are better than mixing and matching other components because they are designed to work together.

I went with the Ford Racing Springs. Lowered the car about an inch. LIke them alot. I also went with KYB non-adjustable shock and don't like them at all. Tried to save a couple of bucks with the shocks and now I'm going to have to replace them in the spring. I've been told the adjustable shocks were the way to go. I'll be looking at Koni or Bilstein.

Eibach and Bilstein will serve you well....if you can't afford that, Ford B springs and adjustable Tokicos or Konis will do well.

Springs= A lot of good companies make lowering springs for Mustangs nowadays. Expect to spend anywhere from $140 for Ford Racing Springs to around $230 for Eibachs, H&R's or Steedas. Eibachs and H&R's are known for having great quality and won't sag over time.

Shocks= Depends if you adjustables or not. If you don't want to mess with adjusting go with Bilsteins. They are expensive but they are also awesome. If you want adjustables the Tokico 5 ways are a good choice.

I have H&R's on my 91 with Bilsteins and I love it.

Im looking into a set of kyb shocks. Im curious, what didnt you like about them? WHich ones did you get, did you get the GR2's or the gas-a-just high performance ones?

KYB = 1/2 step up over OEM.

MAYBE the AGX series is a little better since they are adjustable, but the Gas Adjust and GR-2's are going to maintain stock quality for the most part.

Spend a little more and get Tokico or such in the non-adjustable form if you are on a budget (as I am).

Why not look into the Bullitt kit? It consists of Tokico shocks/struts and springs for $399.

I got my Tokico HPK kit (shocks, struts, springs) for $408 shipped from a highly ranked seller on eBay. Brand new, in box, never opened.
