Replacing Stereo Antenna

Im looking at this part number:

F4ZZ 18A984A

Supposedly it's for the complete antenna assembly minus the rod portion. When I went to remove mine (unscrew it). It came out with only 2 threads of the stud on it. Apparently, when I unscrewed it I was really "breaking" it off.

Im trying to see if there are any step by step instructions on the best way to remove the old cable and base so I can inspect it and see if it is salvageable before ordering a new one.

Can anyone here help me with this?

im pretty sure they make a special drill bit that will remove the remaining threads but the name of it is slipping my mind right now.... you could just the the remnants out and put a new antennae in?

That's what I want to find out before I order a new cable, but Im not sure how to get in there and remove it.

For the price of a new cable and base, you may be better off just getting new ones. Less of a headache anyway. Can't imagine it would cost that much.

to get the base off of the fender if I remember corectly you pry the plastic off of the outside then there are 3 screws that hold it onto the fender. you need to gain acess to the inside of the fender to replace it.

Not hard to do just a PITA...

Sounds like a good time to shave the antenna...

WhY would I do that??? I WANT the radio to work.

The little plastic piece and 3 screws are off already.

I tried to drill my broken antenna out and broke the bit, Putting a nice big scratch on my fender..

so dont do it that way

Wouldn't it be cheaper to get one from a junk yard, if you are unable to remove the broken piece.

Seeing as though the threads are somehow corroded and otherwise just stuck in there, an EZout probably won't work. I think the junkyard is your best bet. I'd expect the cable to run somewhere in the $100 range from Ford if it's available.

your getting your whole car painted soon right? why not shave the antenna and get one of the ones that goes inside the windshield like this

Actually, It's going to be several months before I get the car painted, but Couldnt I just install that ebay item now to get the radio working, THEN worry about shaving the antenna later?

That piece would save me a LOT of money compared to the $50-$60 from Ford.

Do you think that antenna is "ALL" I need to work with my Sony XPLOD unit? I dont know if you need any other connectors or adapters.

Judging from the plug in the picture I would guess it should be a direct hookup to the back of your head unit. I tried reading about it but the giant font made my eyes bleed. I saw some blip about it being amplified (in the title too) which is either false or it comes with some kind of external power supply. I'm guess it's false by the price and giant font.

I asked about the connection, and they didnt quite answer, but they DID say to make sure I have a 12v power source, which Im assuming is for the powered antenna, so it's NOT THE FONT!!

This is your best bet. I shaved mine when I had my car repainted and have an Autoloc hidden antenna in the dash. I had one similiar to the one in the link above on my old Mustang and that worked fine. It was from Radio Shack.

I just bought a similar kit through summit. My problem is that the lead it came with is only ~6' long. So I will need to extend it if I choose to not put this thing inside my console.. I don't really care if my antenna works well or not as long as I can listen to my christmas lights from the road....

Well Rob the one in the link should work great. It does have some wires you need to hook up but thats super easy. You have one for your 12v ignition feed and 1 for your ground and then another for your radio. Relatively simple. DO IT!! lol
